Little Red: Poem

In fairy tales and fables this week, we have been working on our draft for our final project. This is my first draft out of two. My first one is a poem.

Once there was a little girl.
She is known as little red.
She departed for her grandmother's house
To go supply her with some bread.

She took a stroll through the forest
When a wolf appeared and then he said,
"Where are you off to little red?"
"I'm going to my grandmother's house.
Well then, I'm going on ahead."

Little did she know that the wolf was up to no good.
He planned to have the grandma and little red as food.

When little red arrived at grandma's,
She thought she saw her there in bed.
'What big ears, eyes and teeth you have' she said,
And the wolf, disguised as grandma, ate her up.

The wolf fell asleep on the grandmother's bed.
Meanwhile, a hunter walked past the house.
He walked in and aimed his rifle on the wolf's head.

He slit the wolf's stomach to find the two.
Thankfully, the pair survived.
Then, they replied with a thank you.

Once there was a little girl.
She is known as little red.
She departed for her grandmother's house
To go supply her with some bread.

She walked along the forest to meet a different wolf.
She ran to her grandmother's house,
As agile as a mouse.

She warned her
And they bolted all of the doors and windows shut.
'Let me in, I'm little red'
The wolf said.

The grandmother came up with an idea.
She had boiled some herbs the day before,
To fix her diarrhea.

'Use the water to fill up the trough'
The grandmother said with a cough.
On the roof, the wolf hungrily stood.
He smelled the herbs and has mistaken them for food.

The wolf lost his balance and fell off.
He struggled and fortunately, drowned in the trough.

Little red went home unscathed.
And on her own trough,
She peacefully bathed.

The End.

Esmeralda

In fairy tales and fables today, we finished our retelling of Cinderella. Here is what I wrote.

Once upon a time, there lived a beautiful young woman named Esmeralda. She lived with her generous stepmother and her three horrible and wicked sisters. One afternoon, it was Esmeralda's birthday. Her mother bought her a cheap pair of shoes, and she polished them. The kind Esmeralda adored the gleaming pair of shoes. One day, her greedy sisters found the shoes. They abolished one of her shoes out of her feet as it flung through the air.

Meanwhile, a few kilometres away, the shoe lands on a handsome prince's lap. The prince fell in love with the scent of the shoe. The handsome prince asked his coachman to take him to the village where the shoe came from. They travelled day and night until they finally arrived at their destination.

Everyone bowed as the handsome prince departed his majestic carriage. The prince sniffed everyone's feet. Some have the nasty whiff of blue cheese, and some have the horrendous stench of a skunk. Everyone in the village spectated as the royal sniffed his way through the crowd.

Finally, the handsome prince arrived at Esmeralda's house. He first encountered the ugly sisters, who all claimed to have owned the shoe. The prince sniffed each of their feet. But each of their feet smelled like something abominable. Suddenly, the most sensational smell made its way through the prince's nose. He followed the trail of the smell, which led to an old closet that was bolted, screwed and padlocked shut by the sisters.

Each individual of the village took turns opening the sealed door but to no avail. The prince then ordered his guards to open the door, and eventually, they were successful. They opened the door, and suddenly, a burst of aroma filled the prince's nostrils.

The prince married Esmeralda, and the sisters were banished out of the kingdom. The pair had kids, and they lived happily ever after.

The End.

Rapunzel

Today in Fairy tales and Fables, we have been reading about Rapunzel and its different variations, from the original version to the final edition. Here I have compared the 1812 and the 1857 versions.

Why do you think texts change over time?
I think that the text changes over time to make it more suitable for children.

How come each version of Rapunzel is different, even though they have been written by the same author?
Each version of Rapunzel is different because it is written in different timelines. Old variations were more mature than the Disney variation.

What was the same or different in the two versions you read?
The original version had scenes which aren't appropriate for children. Rapunzel had affairs with the prince and was found out when her stomach became larger.

In the final edition, Rapunzel was found out because she mentions the prince in her conversation with the fairy.

Fairytales and Fables Vocabulary

In Fairytales and Fables, we have been learning about the different types of stories. We were tasked to find the definition and provide examples of some of them.

Myths- A myth is a story that explains the history of people, with most involving supernatural beings or events. An example of a myth is Zeus from Greek mythology.

Legends- Similar to a myth, a legend is also about the history of people, but with more realistic events. An example of a legend is King Arthur or the Loch Ness monster.

Fables- A fable is a short story that has a lesson. It involves human-like animals. For example, The Tortoise and the Hare.

Fairytales- A fairy tale is a story about magical and imaginary events. An example of a fairy tale is Snow White.
