In hurumanu 1 we have been writing an essay about The Hunt for the Wilderpeople.

The Hunt for the Wilderpeople

Taika Waititi

In this essay, I will be describing Ricky and Hec’s relationship in The Hunt for the Wilderpeople.

I will be talking about when the film introduces hec and Ricky to each other and how Hec almost murdered the mischievous kid. Secondly, I am going to talk about when they find a cabin and they find out they were wanted. For my third paragraph, I will be talking about how Ricky tried to kill Hec.

I will also point out some of the film techniques that were used in the movie.

As Aunt Bella introduces an obese Ricky to a cranky looking Hector, she tells him to call him uncle if he wants. “No he can’t.” Hector rejects and continues to mind his own business. This scene suggests that Hec and Ricky may not have a positive relationship throughout the movie. Later into the film, Aunt Bella dies and Hec heads into the woods. He later finds Ricky. The chubby boy teases him about not being able to read.”You little bastard!” yelled Hec, as he runs to Ricky, offended and ready to hurt him. His foot gets stuck in the roots of a tree which gets him injured. At this point of the film, we should all understand that Hec just can’t stand Ricky. Their relationship is comparable to my brother and I because we always argue all the time. If I was Ricky, I would just ditch Hec as he seemingly tried to kill him. When Hec got angry at Ricky, we got to see a close-up shot of Hec’s face to show his emotions.

Hec and Ricky’s relationship gets better overtime and soon Hec is back on his feet. They find a cabin which they entered. They looked for supplies and they later found out that they were wanted by the police. Hunters spot them in the cabin and they threaten to report them. Hec gets tackled and is saved when Ricky points a rifle to their faces and says “Sh*t just got real!” in excitement. Hec stands up and gets incharge of the weapon and they both continue their journey. This part of the film proposes that their relationship is getting better. That scene was epic if you ask me. It shows that Ricky was suited for the skux life as he calls it. The film shows a high angle shot on the hunters when Ricky points the gun at them. This describes that Ricky is a threat to the hunters and the hunters are in a bad position.

As Ricky drives the old vehicle, they crash into a junkyard. Him and Hec come out of the car and take cover from the police. After a few moments, Hec decides to surrender himself to the authorities. Ricky wanted to stay in the skux life, and was disappointed in Hec. He shoots him on the leg, and they are both captured. This was when I started to hate Ricky, because he shot Hec just because he wanted to turn himself in while Ricky wanted to stay in the run. A full-shot was used when Hec got shot. They later found a family that Ricky had met during their run that decided to accept Ricky and Hec as their family member. “I’m sorry for shooting you.” Ricky apologises (he kinda had to).

To sum up everything that’s been stated so far, Ricky and Hec’s relationship were very unstable. It went up and down and up and down. The film was exciting in my opinion, there were also some scenes that made us laugh. Now let me end this piece of writing with a “Sh*t just got real.”

Today in ESOL, as soon as we arrived in class, Mrs Truter started reading a book, without giving us any instructions and not even telling us the title of the book. The book introduced the characters, the narrator being the eldest son Noah.

At the start of the story, the narrator talks about how his parents met while eating pie. His dad was a surfer. He had memorized whenever Noah's mum was on the job. They later became couples. The mum being the dad's first, last and only boyfriend. They got married in their backyard and later moved to Kenya.

I think the story will be something about the family, as it introduced the whole family at the start.

Digestive System

 Oesophagus

Where is it?

The oesophagus connects your mouth to your stomach. It is part of your neck. Basically it's your throat.

What does it do?

When you swallow food, the oesophagus moves the food from your mouth to your stomach.

How does it do it?

When you swallow your food, your oesophagus' walls squeeze together and it moves the food into the stomach.

Stomach

Where is it?

The stomach is located in the left side of your midsection.

What does it do?

The stomach crushes your food so that the food you swallow can fit into your intestines.

How does it do it?

The stomach crushes food by squeezing the food with three layers of muscles. The acid in your stomach helps to break it down.

Small Intestine

Where is it?

The small intestine is located between your stomach and large intestines.

What does it do?

The small intestine absorbs the nutrients out of the food and into your liver.

How does it do it?

The small intestines absorb nutrients are covered with cells that are called villi that helps absorb the nutrients. The cells on the villi are full of microvilli, they are a hair like structure.

Liver

Where is the liver?

The liver is located in the right side of your abdomen. The other side of your stomach.

What does it do?

The liver adjusts most chemical levels in the blood. It carries waste products from the liver. The nutrients from your small intestines go here.

How does it do it?

The liver detoxifies your blood by turning the toxins to a substance called urea. It releases it into the blood where the kidneys ejects it as urine.

Large Intestine

Where is it?

The large intestine is located at the bottom of the small intestine.

What does it do?

The large intestine absorbs the liquid from materials that are not digested as food. It gets rid of waste left over.

How does it do it?

When your large intestine absorbs too much water, food gets hard and dry. Muscle movement push your it to the rectum and will later be released as poop.

Resilience

In health, we have been learning about our areas of well-being and how we could improve on them. The first topic I chose was the resilience topic.

I defined the word resilience and listed some of my risk and protective factors.

What is resilience?

Resilience is the ability to recover from difficult situations, for example; The people of Christchurch were resilient, as they bounced back from the devastating earthquake that occurred in 2011.

When was I resilient?

I was resilient when I was at cross country zones, I was really far behind but I kept going, I ended up passing half of the competitors which was a positive.

Colonel Sanders

Colonel Sanders demonstrated resilience by not giving up even though he was on the edge. Despite being praised by food critic Duncan Hines, his recipe was rejected many times, but he never gave up until he found a business partner.

My Risk Factors

My Protective Factors

Not listening to the teacher’s instructions.

Hanging out with my old friends as well as my new ones.

Talking in front of a big group.

Being in a basketball club.

I get distracted easily.

Going to a good and caring school.

Lazy.
