ESOL

 In ESOL this year, I have enjoyed watching movies and studying about them.

 One of the movies we watched was Cool Runnings. Cool Runnings is a sports/comedy movie about a Jamaican bobsleigh team joining the Winter Olympics. I liked how the movie has a comedic twist as well as a lesson to never give up.

The next movie we watched was Penguin Bloom. The movie is about an unfortunate accident that happened to a mother of three and her journey to recover from the mental scar that the accident has left. I was really surprised to find out that the movie is based on a true story.

Photomontage

 In art/photography this week, we have been learning about photomontage and collage. We were told to find images online, remove the background and make a photomontage with it. We had three topics to choose from; pandemic, fashion and body, and cheating in sports.

Badminton

 For the past week, we have been playing badminton in PE. Today I am going to show you how to score in a game of badminton.

To play badminton, you will need a person or a pair on each team. For singles, the lines are smaller, for pairs, the lines are wider.

If you hit the shuttlecock over to the opposition's side and it lands within the court lines, you score a point.

If a serve fails to make it over the net or fail to hit it diagonally, the other team scores a point and they get the next serve.

If you hit the shuttlecock out of the lines, the other team gets a point.

The first team to reach 21 points wins the game. However, if both teams are tied at 20, a team needs to win by 2 points. There are usually 3 matches played.

NZ Land March

NZ Land March

In Social Studies this week, we have been researching the New Zealand land march lead by Dame Whina Cooper. Below you will find a map that shows the routes that the hikoi took. They marched from Te Kao all the way to Wellington. During the hikoi, they covered a distance of 1,100km in 30 days. They carried a flag, and they never let it touch the ground. They protested and signed a petition to try and get their land back. As they travelled, many decided to join in. The hikoi started with just about 50 people and ended with 5000. 60,000 people signed the petition.
